How to get to the Twelve Apostles Refuge

Departure is from the center of Pinzolo. From here, two cable cars will take you comfortably up to Doss del Sabion. We recommend starting the day with a good coffee at the refuge of the same name, from which there are magnificent views of the Brenta.

Continue on trail No. 307, which will take you initially to the meadows of Bregn da l’Ors and then to the picturesque Valagola Lake. Here begins the most challenging climb: a scree section that leads to the famous “Scala Santa.” This trail, set among rocks and equipped with metal ropes, offers an exciting experience and a 360-degree view of the Adamello-Brenta Park and the valley below.

Past the Scala Santa, the trail opens onto a rocky plateau, where the Rifugio Dodici Apostoli will welcome you. This historic refuge is an oasis of refreshment, ideal for a break or lunch with views of the Dolomites.

The Little Church to the Fallen of the Mountain

Before relaxing at the hut, set aside 10 minutes to visit the striking Little Church to the Mountain Fallen, a small chapel carved into the rock with a unique cross. This silent and touching place is a tribute to fallen mountaineers and a point of reflection surrounded by the beauty of nature.

The return route follows the same path as the outward journey, giving you new perspectives on the landscapes you have already crossed.

Tips for tackling the trek

To tackle this hike, it is essential to wear sturdy hiking shoes, preferably with good grip for the more challenging sections. The weather in the mountains can change rapidly, so it is recommended to bring a waterproof jacket and layered technical clothing. The ascent to the Holy Staircase requires energy and concentration, so it is important to carry a sufficient supply of water and some snacks to keep your strength up.

The ideal time to hike this route is from June to September, when the trail is snow-free and the hut is open, offering refreshment and shelter along the way.

By following this route, you can immerse yourself in unique views, discover unspoiled corners of nature and have an unforgettable experience. The Twelve Apostles Refuge is waiting for you to give you a day of adventure and beauty trekking.
