Between nature and history: Forte Clemp

The route starts from the ai Sass Park, near the center of Sant’Antonio di Mavignola. From here, you take a forest road to the right that leads into the Val dal Cridac, an evocative area characterized by deciduous and coniferous forests.

After a few hairpin bends and crossing a bridge over the brook, continue on the orographic left side until you reach an aqueduct. Here, the trail changes: once the road ends, a path begins that gently climbs the mountain ridge, leading to the historic remains of Fort Clemp, an Austro-Hungarian outpost dating back to World War I.

After a short stop, the trail takes you to the Clemp Huts, a group of historic buildings in typical mountain architectural style. This vantage point provides breathtaking views of the Rendena Valley and the majestic Presanella peak.

The return to the valley

From the viewpoint, continue on a carriage road southward, beginning the descent to St. Anthony of Mavignola. Along the way, you can admire the evocative path of the Stations of the Cross, which leads to the meadows above the village. From here, a flat walk will take you back to the ai Sass Park, closing the loop hike.

Trekking tips

The hike is ideal in spring and autumn, when the colors of the forest provide striking scenery and temperatures are milder.

To tackle the trail in the best way, it is recommended to wear hiking shoes, carry a water supply and have a light jacket with you for the cooler areas surrounded by vegetation. The trail is also accessible to less experienced hikers, but has some downhill sections with steeper inclines that require attention.

This trek is a journey between nature and history, ideal for those looking for a relaxing yet challenging hike. Val Rendena will captivate you with its evocative landscapes, historic sites and the authentic charm of the Dolomites.
